Medical Room
At Radlett Prep we have a warm and comfortable, specially designated Medical Room where children may go if they are feeling unwell or have any minor injuries or accidents. All pupils have access to the Medical Room throughout the school day.
The children are taken care of by our School Matrons, who are registered nurses. They are available to discuss with parents/carers any medical issues or concerns they may have.
The School Matron’s central concern is the physical and emotional well-being of each and every pupil. Mrs Thomas and Mrs Gallagher’s compassion, care and understanding of the children’s welfare and emotional needs is exemplary and outstanding, as reported by the Ofsted inspectors in their 2009 and 2013 reports.
In school, there are several members of staff who are trained as qualified First Aiders and may be approached in an emergency. Staff training sessions, run by Mrs Hannelly, on dealing with medical emergencies in school such as asthma and anaphylactic shock, including how to use an Epipen are held annually to update knowledge and renew existing skills.
Health Care
- Please let us know if there are any medical or other problems likely to affect your child during the school day.
- If your child is absent for any medical reason, please follow the absence procedures.
- The School’s policy is not to send additional work home for children who are absent through illness. We prefer them to recover without any additional pressures.
- If a child is on antibiotics to be taken 3 times a day, they should be taken in the morning, after school and before bedtime. If they need to be administered 4 times daily then please consult the nurse who can administer medication. If this is the case you will be asked to fill in a form which can be downloaded here. If your child is required to take medication during the school day this may be possible after discussion with the School Matron. If this is possible, you will be asked to fill out a form which is available from the School Office or downloaded here. REQUEST FOR SCHOOL TO ADMINISTER PRESCRIBED MEDICATION
- Medicines of any kind must not be given to children to bring into school.
- If is very important that we are notified of any changes to your address or telephone numbers. Please notify the School Office immediately and inform the class teacher in case we need to contact you in an emergency.
Some illnesses require children to be absent from school for a specific number of days and guidance can be found here. Communicable Diseases
The School must be informed immediately of any communicable diseases.
