Music lessons are an important part of the School curriculum. Pupils in Reception – Year 6 are taught by specialist teachers. These are supported by visiting music tutors who provide additional instrumental or singing lessons for our children in Year 3 – Year 6.
The Music Department offers opportunities to develop skills through class lessons, choral and instrumental lessons and clubs. Class lessons are taken by Mrs James (Reception and Year 1 classes) and Mrs Harte (Years 2-6). From Year 3 upwards, children have the opportunity to take up instrumental or singing lessons with our visiting music tutors.
All children are given the chance to develop confidence in performing through participation in Year group plays and concerts.
There are three choirs and an Orchestra:
Senior Choir (Year 5 and Year 6) led by the Head of Music.
Junior Choir (Year 3 and Year 4) led by the Head of Music.
Auditions for choirs are held in the Summer Term and practices start in September. School Choirs have the opportunity to perform both in school and at external venues throughout the academic year.
Currently we offer additional tuition for the following instruments, violin, piano, guitar, drums, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. Many of our pupils go on to complete external Grade Exams.
When the children become more proficient, they will be invited to join one or more of the following groups: String Group / Jazz Band / Rock Band and perform to the school. Practices for these groups take place before school and at lunchtimes.
