Our Year 6 students have enthusiastically embarked on their World War II topic, immersing themselves in the history of this pivotal time. This week, the children have created artwork inspired by The Blitz and alongside this, they have begun reading the novel Goodnight Mister Tom, which has deepened their understanding of the emotional and personal impacts of the war. To further engage with the past, each child has been assigned a new identity, mirroring the experience of evacuees, and they now eagerly respond to the sound of the siren, hiding under their desks as part of wartime role play. Year 6 also took part in a thought-provoking workshop, The Journey, where they learned about The Holocaust and its profound impact on history.
It has been wonderful to watch the children’s hands-on approach spark both their imaginations and curiosity about this important period in history. The children are now looking forward to their upcoming visit to the RAF Museum on 6th February, where they will have the opportunity to see artifacts and gain further insight into this period in history.
