Year 5 children went on their annual trip to Burwell House in Cambridgeshire, to learn and practise geography skills that are part of the national curriculum.
Due to the Covid pandemic, we were unable to attend last year, and this year we were only able to stay for the day. Nevertheless, the children made the most of their time there.
We set off early and arrived at 9:45 am. The weather was slightly overcast to start with, but thankfully it never rained and there was intermittent sunshine throughout the day. The children soon got to explore the grounds, which included several glimpses of the resident Muntjac deer. Year 5 learnt to read maps, use coordinates, follow directions on a compass and worked cooperatively to solve problems. The children had a great time, with many citing ‘Burwell Fox’ game and the barbeque lunch as the highlights of their visit.
We left just before 6pm, after having a picnic round a campfire. The children were very well behaved on the coach and throughout the day, and a credit to our school.
