On Wednesday 11th December, Year 5 participated in a Victorian workshop that took place in the Blue Room at school. Each class had a 75 minute session, where they were introduced to Mr Carstairs, the butler of Lord and Lady Ponsonby of Radlett Hall.
He introduced the children to various characters that worked in the Hall and the streets outside, including: Lord and Lady Ponsonby themselves, laundry maids, street urchins and the philanthropist, Doctor Barnardo. The children were given the opportunity to dress up, recite facts, role play scenarios, use artefacts, ask questions and learn the steps to a traditional Victorian dance. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which, along with their prior visit to the Hitchin Schools Museum, enriched their history studies for this term.
