On Wednesday 2nd October Year 3 went to visit St Albans Abbey for a whole day of interactive and creative activities to enrich their understanding of this terms history topic on the Romans. As soon as we stepped into the magnificent Abbey it was lovely to see the look of awe on the children’s faces, which set the tone for the day. The children learnt the story of Saint Alban through creating a dramatisation with costumes and discovered why he was such a significant individual and the link this had to Roman history. We were then led to the shrine of St Alban, wandering past beautiful stained glass windows and medieval artwork along the way and learnt about the pilgrimage made by many Christians to this significant place of worship. The children also had a wonderful time getting very messy and creative by making their very own Roman style mosaics with grout and brightly coloured tesserae which they were all extremely proud of. A brilliant day was had by all and it was especially impressive to have the Abbey volunteers comment on how respectful and well mannered the children of Radlett Prep were and how they had enjoyed working with the children very much! Thank you very much to the adult helpers who accompanied us on the trip and contributed to a great day out!
