On Tuesday 7th May our U11 football team travelled to St Georges Park, the home of The Football Association. The boys had qualified for the ISFA National 7-a-side finals by coming second in the Hertfordshire & Middlesex regional tournament. This was the first time that a team from Radlett Prep had qualified for the national finals and it was a great honour for the boys to play at the home of English football.
Our first game was against St Andrews from Eastbourne and the boys made a fantastic start with a 2-0 win. The pitches were amazing and allowed the boys to play some good football. But the good start was short lived as we lost our next two games against Elms Junior School from Nottingham and Castle Court from Dorset. This meant that we had to win our next two games to stand any chance of qualifying. We played a tough game against Rokeby School from London and Lambrook School from Ascot and pulled off two fine victories. The boys played some of their best football but it was their determination and desire to win that shone through most.
There was a nervous few moments to see if we had qualified for the quarter finals which we had just done on goal difference. In the quarter finals we were up against a tough team in Dulwich Prep. We made a great start scoring two early goals. Dulwich threw everything at us and scored but we managed to hang on to a 2-1 victory.
In the semi-finals we played against Berkhamsted. Berkhamsted had won all of their games and were very strong. Despite our best efforts we lost 2-0 to Berkhamsted who went on to win the tournament overall. In the 3rd/4th play off we lost to Castle Court school from Wimborne but to come 4th out of all the Independent Schools in the country was a great achievement. The boys and parents thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was an experience they will keep with them for a very long time!
