Today, we held our first ever whole school House Afternoon. The activities enabled pupils of different ages to work with pupils in the same house. It was wonderful to see the care and consideration the older children had for the younger pupils and the respect the younger pupils had for their older peers. We were very lucky that the rain stayed away enough for some of the activities due to take place outside could go ahead as planned.
Britons were working in groups in the Reception and Year 1 classrooms to build chairs for Baby Bear from the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. They had a wide range of materials to help them with their construction.
Persians were hunting for answers to questions about recycling (a topic suggested by members of the Persian House). They completed an orienteering course around the school grounds.
Children in the Romans House were in the Blue Room and Hall creating colourful mosaics. They all worked so well together creating their masterpieces.
The children in the Greek House produced portraits of someone that they admired. They were taught how to create accurate portraits, using proportion and accurate measurements and how to shade certain areas. There was a variety of beautiful portraits created, including football players, famous singers, historical figures and family members.
Listening to the children discussing the activities this afternoon, we can safely say it was a successful event and one that we hope to repeat.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the first House Afternoon at our school.
