On Wednesday 16th January, Year 5 took part in a Growth Mindset Workshop. The children were asked to think about how much effort they put into their learning. The children were then asked if the effort was the same, when learning something new. They soon realised that the more effort they put in, the easier it was to learn the new task. When completing the tasks, the children were taught a ‘step by step’ process and saw that their school lessons were the same – building on knowledge already learnt. With effort, it became much easier.
During the day the children were set tasks of completing a ‘Pen Trick’, to be able to juggle three beanbags and to work as a team to create a Tepee. By the end of the day, most children were able to complete the Pen Trick, juggle at least two beanbags and had a free-standing Tepee. All children enjoyed the tasks and realised how to work more effectively in a team – listening to each other was the key!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the tasks and hopefully learnt a great deal about their approach to learning and working well in a team.
