On Thursday, Year 5 embarked on a journey back in time with a visit to the British Schools in Hitchin. Dressed in authentic Victorian attire, they engaged fully in a typical classroom experience of the era. Utilising slates for mathematics and ink for writing, the children experienced the educational methods during the Victorian period. Their exemplary behaviour was commendable; inspections confirmed that their hands were clean and tidy!
Following the lessons, the students explored Mr Finch’s house, the residence of the schoolmaster, providing a fascinating insight into the domestic life of a Victorian family. The children impressed all with their considerable knowledge of the Victorian era. The day concluded with traditional ‘drills’ conducted outdoors, adding a memorable element to their experience. It was a splendid day, and we all thoroughly enjoyed this unique historical excursion.
