Today, Year 5 went back in time. They visited the Hitchin Victorian School and participated in a Monitorial school lesson. Some children were reading well but sadly others had to move down a standard! One or two children arrived at the Victorian lesson with dirty hands and had to wear a badge of shame!
The children then participated in a ‘Drill Lesson’ which was a physical exercise lesson in the playground. Unfortunately, some children were a bit confused as to which hand was their left or right, when the instructions were being given! Finally, there was a tour of the Headmaster’s house. It was interesting to see all the different items that were used in Victorian times. In addition to this, the children were shocked to see what items were not in the house – washing machines, hot water tap, kettle and an indoor toilet!
The children were a credit to the school and behaved very well indeed. Well done Year 5.
